International Conference on Mechanization in Brick Industry

An international conference on "Mechanisation in Brick Industry" was organised on 10 March 2011at Chandigarh jointly by the Punjab State Council for Science and Technology and TERI. Mr Viswajeet Khanna, Secretary, Science, Technology and Environment, Punjab inaugurated the conference. Mr Srinivasan Iyer, Assistant Country Director, UNDP, India presented the keynote address. Mr Alessandro Colucci, ECTS briefed about the international perspective. Officials from UNDP projects in brick sector in other Asian countries (Vietnam and Bangladesh) shared their experiences. More than 550 brick kiln entrepreneurs from 14 states of India and officials from various state/ central government departments participated in the conference. The European technology suppliers provided overview of different REB technologies and conveyed their desire to work in India. The exhibition organized during the conference was quite useful for the participants to interact extensively with different national and international technology suppliers as well as with the local bank (Corporation Bank).
